As we welcome the new born baby home, the basic informations to be noted are ( apart from the regularly noted info) :

1. BIRTH DATE, DAY  AND  TIME
2. PLACE OF BIRTH
3. STAR & RASI of the baby

We should also note the Gothra, Veda & Mutt they belong to, so baby knows what Gothra Veda and Mutt he/she belongs to.

Other traditions are :

*  New born babies are made to wear old clothes of some other member of family (like elder siblings old clothes or any recently born baby’s in the family)

* When the new born is entering home for the first time, any elder person in the family should take AARATHI. Aarathi is taken for the mother, newborn ( include elder sibling if there..). Aarthi taken, is put in the entrance on the Rangoli. Kumkum is kept  on mothers forehead. Then all together enter home.

How to make AARATHI  FOR PEOPLE – In a plate, mix few spoons of water, pinch of haldi(turmeric powder), Chunna &  akshadai.

(FYI : AARATHI FOR GOD – Mix few spoons of water, pinch of haldi & kumkum, akshadai. With 2 ghee dheepas lit, take aarathi for God. After arthi is taken, keep the dheepas in the pooja room, outside the arthi plate. DO NOT PUT THIS ARTHI IN THE ENTRANCE)

NOTE 2:

On any day 2 ARTHIs are to be taken for people. Do not stop with one ARTHI.  The 2nd ARTHI can be taken before lunch or in the evening.

* Until 10th day baby is given sponge bath only

* 11th/21ST/40th, day Namakarna & thottil for baby is done… Chk NAMAKARNA page.
